Managing partial shipments (Multi-shipment) with your Lengow connectors

About this feature

Lengow now supports partial shipments (multi-shipment) for orders synchronized via your e-commerce applications and connectors. This major evolution allows merchants to ship an order in multiple installments when all products are not available at the same time or when they are distributed across different warehouses.

Understanding the two types of Multi-shipment

Depending on your logistics needs and marketplace capabilities, the fragmentation of shipments is organized according to two distinct concepts:

  • "Order line Multiship " (Order line management): This mode allows you to ship only certain lines of the global order, while the others remain pending.
Example: An order contains 1 Red T-shirt and 1 Blue T-shirt. You ship the Red T-shirt immediately. The Blue T-shirt remains pending shipment.
  • "Quantity Multiship" (Product quantity management): This mode allows you to split the ordered quantity for a single product line.
Example: An order contains 5 units of the same shoe reference. You ship 2 immediately. The remaining 3 units of this same line will be shipped later.

Evolution of order processing

Discover the changes brought by this update compared to the former global behavior of our connectors:

Before this evolution What is now possible

Single shipment per order:

  • 1 order = 1 shipment
  • All products had to be shipped together
  • Only a single unique tracking number could be transmitted

Flexible and multi-package shipments:

  • Support for Order line Multiship (targeted shipment of specific lines).
  • Support for Quantity Multiship (partial shipment of quantities from the same line).
  • Management of multiple tracking numbers: When multiple packages are created in your CMS, each package retains its own tracking number and the marketplace receives the information corresponding to each separate shipment.

How does it work in your CMS?

Operational processing remains seamless and takes place directly from the interface of your usual e-commerce solution:

  1. Create a fulfillment / shipment in your CMS for the products ready to be sent.
  2. Add the tracking number associated with the package.
  3. Validate the shipment.

With each shipment event detected in your CMS, the Lengow connector automatically retrieves the relevant lines, the shipped quantities, as well as the associated tracking number, then instantly transmits this precise information to the marketplace.

Important limitations

Not all marketplaces support multi-shipment, and not all of them are currently integrated with Lengow. Please refer to our dedicated file for more details :  Marketplaces Multishipment coverage.

  • If the marketplace and Lengow is compatible: It accepts multiple shipments per order as well as partial shipments (by line or by quantity depending on its specificities).
  • If the marketplace or Lengow is not compatible: It still only accepts a full shipment of the order. In this case, the partial shipment transmitted by the connector will be refused by the marketplace API and the order will retain its "unshipped" status there.

Check the status of the shipment

Currently, CMS applications do not directly indicate whether a marketplace supports multi-shipment or not. To validate the success of the operation, you must consult the orders tab in Lengow and check the status of the shipment action.

Frequent use cases

  • Stock distributed across multiple warehouses: One product is shipped from warehouse A and another from warehouse B. Multiple separate packages are then sent for the same order.
  • Partial stockout: Part of the order is available immediately. You can ship the available products without waiting for the rest of the order to be replenished.
  • Bulky products: The dimensions of the products require the use of multiple packages and potentially different carriers. Each package has its own tracking.

Connector compatibility and deployment

This feature is integrated or currently being progressively rolled out across our main e-commerce connectors:
