8603: You cannot change the item_classification for SKU XXX by submitting a file with a new value. To modify this attribute, please proceed as follows: Submit a feed to delete the existing SKU. Submit a file to recreate the SKU with the updated item_classification (Attributes: parentage_level).
What does this error mean
This error occurs when you try to change the item_classification (product category) of an SKU that already exists in Amazon’s catalogue.
Amazon does not allow direct modifications of this attribute.
If the category you send does not match the one already stored for the product, the update will be rejected.
How to fix this error
Change the category to match the one already present. You cannot simply overwrite the category.
- Delete the existing product with the modified category.
- Wait at least 24 hours.
- Resubmit the product with the new category.
