Amazon error message (example):
Category (Product_type): APPAREL - externally_assigned_product_identifier.0: 'type' is a required property
What does this error mean
Amazon requires a product identifier type for your product, but this information is missing.
Amazon needs both:
- Product Identifier Type: externally_assigned_product_identifier.type
- Product Identifier Value: externally_assigned_product_identifier.value
Currently, only three types of identifiers are accepted by Amazon:
- EAN
- GTIN
- UPC
How to fix this error
Make sure to provide:
- externally_assigned_product_identifier.value: the actual code (e.g., EAN number)
- externally_assigned_product_identifier.type: the correct type (EAN, GTIN, or UPC)
However, there are cases where you may not have an EAN/GTIN (for example, a product sold under a private label or a handcrafted product).
In such cases, you must request an exemption from Amazon to allow the creation and publication of an offer without an EAN/GTIN.
Read our article on how you can sell products without EAN or GTIN.
