What is changing

OTTO has announced policy updates affecting how merchants present sustainability claims and product warranties on otto.de. 

- Upcoming Ban on Generic Environmental Claims

Starting in April 2027, generic environmental terms such as "nachhaltig" (sustainable), "umweltfreundlich" (eco-friendly), and "klimaneutral" (climate-neutral) will no longer be permitted on OTTO.

Sellers must proactively remove these terms from their product content. OTTO already suppresses content containing these generic terms if the item is competing for visibility against offers from other partners.

- Mandatory PDFs for Manufacturer Warranties

Whenever a manufacturer warranty is specified, the detailed warranty terms must be uploaded as a PDF. 
Starting September 16, 2026, OTTO will block any newly submitted or updated products claiming a manufacturer warranty if the corresponding PDF is missing. 
For existing products, OTTO warns that their visibility may be restricted in the future if the PDF in missing. 

Submitting this correct documentation is also a necessary step if your products qualify for the GARAN label (voluntary extended warranties). For this label, fill out the "Herstellergarantie Gesamtprodukt" and "Modellbezeichnung" attributes.

What you have to do in Lengow

To ensure your products remain visible and eligible for sale on otto.de, take the following actions in Lengow:

• Audit Titles & Descriptions: In your product catalogue, search for and remove generic environmental buzzwords (e.g., nachhaltig, umweltfreundlich, klimaneutral) from your titles and descriptions.
• Check Your Warranty Attributes: If you are advertising a manufacturer warranty in the "Herstellergarantie Gesamtprodukt" or "Bedingte Herstellergarantie" attribute, ensure that the URL to the warranty PDF is provided in Lengow.
  In the common attributes, add a mediaAssets field (see screenshot below) with the mediaAssets.type set to "MANUFACTURER_WARRANTY" and provide the URL of the warranty PDF file in "mediaAssets.location".
  If an item does not have a warranty, ensure all warranty attributes are left completely blank.

Changes to environmental and sustainability claims

From April 2027, certain generic environmental and sustainability claims will no longer be permitted on otto.de. Terms such as “nachhaltig”, “umweltfreundlich” and “klimaneutral” must therefore be removed from the content in good time so that the products remain eligible for sale.

Please take these changes into account when creating and submitting product data and coordinate the required changes with the merchants you support. Content containing one of the terms listed above is already not displayed if the item competes with offers from other partners. GARAN label for voluntary manufacturer warranties

The GARAN label applies to a voluntary, free-of-charge manufacturer warranty that goes beyond the statutory warranty, covers the entire product, lasts longer than two years and is offered without additional costs or conditions.

To generate the GARAN label, the attributes “Herstellergarantie Gesamtprodukt” and “Modellbezeichnung” as well as a PDF containing the detailed manufacturer warranty terms are required. For warranties that apply only under certain conditions or to parts or components of the product, please use the attribute “Bedingte Herstellergarantie”. No GARAN label is generated in this case.

Missing manufacturer warranty terms

For some products, a manufacturer warranty is currently entered using the attribute “Herstellergarantie Gesamtprodukt” or “Bedingte Herstellergarantie”, but the corresponding manufacturer warranty terms have not been provided as a PDF.

Whenever a manufacturer warranty is specified, the corresponding warranty terms must be available as a PDF. For submission via the user interface, use the document type “Garantiebedingungen”. For submission via API, use manufacturer_warranty.

If no manufacturer warranty applies to a product, the corresponding attribute must be removed from the product data. From 16 September 2026, products with a manufacturer warranty can only be newly submitted or updated if the corresponding warranty terms are available as a PDF. Products that have already been published will initially remain online. The visibility of products with incomplete warranty information may be restricted in the future.
