AI Category Mapping is a Lengow app that automatically assigns product categories using AI.
It helps save time and improve category consistency.
What is AI Category Mapping?
AI Category Mapping analyses your product data and automatically suggests the most relevant category based on product information such as title and description.
Manually categorising products can be time-consuming and inconsistent, especially across large catalogues.
AI Category Mapping helps you:
- Automatically assign product categories
- Ensure consistent categorisation across feeds
- Reduce manual work
- Improve product data quality before sending to channels

How to set up the AI Category Mapping app in Lengow
Follow the steps below to install the app and generate AI-powered category mappings for your channel feed:
1. Access the app
From the Lengow platform homepage, go to the "Apps" section in the left-hand sidebar.
Then click on AI Studio (or use the search bar and type Category, for example) and select the "AI Category Mapping" app.
2. Install the app
Click on "Connect" and then on "Get started".
The AI Category Mapping app is now installed and ready to be configured.
3. Select the feed to categorise
On the "Select the feed to map categories" screen:
- Choose the channel feed you want to categorise. Only feeds eligible to AI categorisation are listed.
- Select the catalogue segment (if applicable)
- Click on "Start category mapping"
The AI category mapping process is launched.
AI Operation Confirmation: Before the AI operations are launched, a confirmation pop-up will appear. It shows the number of AI operations you’ve already performed during the current month, along with an estimate of your total usage if you proceed. This gives you visibility into how this action will affect your monthly usage before you confirm.
4. Monitor category mapping progress
In the "Your category mappings" page, you can see:
- The category mapping you just launched
- Its current status ("In progress") with the corresponding product coverage.
The categorisation process can take some time, depending on the size of your catalogue. It may remain "In progress" for a while.
On this page, you can also:
- Start a new category mapping by clicking "Map a new channel"
- Click on the three dots next to a mapping to access the following options:
- Preview
- Change category field
- Regenerate missing categories
5. Preview the AI-generated categories
Click on the three dots next to your mapping and select "Preview".
You will be redirected to the catalogue preview page where you can see:
- A new field added to your catalogue, named AI_CATEGORY_(channel name)
- The channel category suggested by AI for each product
If the category is not present yet:
- it may still be in progress ("Generating" status).
- an issue may have occurred ("Something went wrong" status).
6. Apply the AI category field to your channel feed
To use the AI-generated categories in the channel feed:
- Go to the Category step of your channel
- Click on "I want to use another category field"
- Select the new field starting with AI_CATEGORY
- Click on "Change my category field"
Your category mapping is now complete.
It is displayed as the standard category mapping interface, with additional "Mapped by AI" tags highlighting the category mappings that were handled by the AI.
The original category present in your catalogue is displayed above each category, in gray (see screenshot).
7. Modify the category mapping
You can adjust the AI categorisation just like a standard mapping.
To override a suggestion, simply click the 'X' to clear an AI mapping and select a new category manually. A "Mapped manually" tag shows which category mappings were overridden.
You can also still use the "Split category" feature to refine broader categories.
8. Channel feed preview
In the channel feed preview, the category attribute now contains the AI-generated categories (and your manual adjustments, if any). These categories are the ones sent to the channel.
Some products may still have a blank category if the categorisation process is not fully finished.
