First, you will notice that a new purple field named "AI_CATEGORY_XXX" has been automatically created in your catalogue:
Since we only process a limited number of test products into the new AI field, you will need to merge your data to ensure full catalogue coverage. By creating a new catalogue optimisation, you can generate a single category field that combines both your existing categories and the new AI-generated categories.
Step 1: Create a new merged category field through an optimization
(For more details on how to create an optimisation, please refer to our optimisation guide.)
In this example, we have named the optimisation "AI Category".
1. Give your new field a name: For example, "CATEGORY_MERGED".
2. Set the value: Populate this new field by selecting your new AI-generated catalogue field (e.g., "AI_CATEGORY_AMAZON_DE_96151").
3. Set the condition: Configure the rule to apply only when the field "AI_CATEGORY_AMAZON_DE_96151" is set. This ensures the optimisation only triggers when the field is actually populated with AI data.
4- Create a second rule: To add your default categories, simply duplicate the rule you just created.
5- Edit this rule: Simply replace the AI field with the default category field you normally use for your catalogue.
And apply it to all your products:
Here is what your final optimisation rules should look like, with the "AI category" rule at the top and your "original category" rule at the bottom.
Click on "Switch to advanced" view in the top right corner to see the exact details of each rule more clearly:
Now, if you go to your catalogue, you will find your newly created field "Category_merged" (1).
Here, you can see that the categories generated by the AI (2) have been successfully combined with your existing categories.
You can now start using this new "Category_merged" field for your category mapping within your channel configuration.
Step 2: Apply the new optimisation field to your channel feed.
To use this new optimisation field for your categories in the channel feed:
Go to the Category step of your channel
Click on "I want to use another category field"
Select the new field, example here "Category_merged"
Click on "Change my category field"
Your category mapping is now complete.
Step 3: Modify the category mapping
You can adjust the categorisation just like a standard mapping.
When setting up your mapping, you only need to map your initial catalogue category values. You do not need to map the AI categories, as these will be mapped automatically by our system.
You can also still use the "Split category" feature to refine broader categories.
Channel feed preview
In the channel feed preview, the category attribute now contains the AI-generated categories (and your manual adjustments, if any). These categories are the ones sent to the channel.
Some products may still have a blank category if the categorisation process is not fully finished.
